Government Religious Committee meets with Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam on prevention measures against coronavirus threats

Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Vũ Chiến Thắng had on February 12 exchanges with Archbishop Joseph Nguyễn Chí Linh, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam (CBCV) on the novel coronavirus (nCoV).
Joining the exchange meeting taking place in the office of Hue Archdiocese included representatives from provincial authorities of Thua Thien Hue and Quang Tri.
At the meeting, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng informed current situation of the acute respiratory disease caused by the nCoV in the world and Vietnam and stated that the Government and relevant agencies is making a maximum effort to fight against the epidemic.
For his part, Archbishop Joseph Nguyễn Chí Linh, President of the CBCV shared that the CBCV has issued on February 2 a dispatch to dioceses, parishes, congregations, and seminaries on the preventive measures against the virus.
In response to this dispatch, many Catholic dioceses have guided in writings the preventive measures against the spread of the virus amongst the parishioners and at Catholic worshipping places, including the canceling of religious masses and large Catholic gatherings in February and March 2020.
The GCRA leader also spoke highly of the CBCV’s efforts in fighting the spread of the virus and expressed hope that the CBCV would closely coordinate with the Government and relevant agencies for controlling and preventing the epidemic and enhancing preventive measures as recommended by the Ministry of Health and the Dispatch of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs on February 1, 2020.
