Upon an invitation of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), a delegation from the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) led by Chairman of Vũ Chiến Thắng paid a working visit to the USA from July 9-17.

At the visiting meeting at the BGEA’s headquarters, the two sides had exchanges on cooperation activities. The BGEA leadership spoke highly of the GCRA’s support for the 500th anniversary of Reformation Day held in Hanoi in November last year, in which US evangelist preacher Franklin Graham attended the event as well as delivered a speech at the rally. Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng also took the chance to share about the current religious life and the implementation of Vietnam’s policy and law on religion.

Earlier, the GCRA delegation visited and met with US Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback. The GCRA Chairman shared with the host achievements in safeguarding freedom of belief and religion by the State of Vietnam in recent years, and  affirmed that Vietnam pursues a consistent policy of respecting religious freedom in the country.

The GCRA official also took the chance to urge the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom to have more direct exchanges with concerning state authorities of Vietnam in order to receive accurate and objective information on the religious life in the country, as there have been many incorrect information and partial assessment stated by several unfriendly individuals and organizations on religious freedom in the country.

The delegation also traveled to visit Samaritan's Purse (SP) based in Boone, North Carolina. At a warm welcoming reception, the SP leadership shared with the guests the Operation Christmas Child and other humanitarian programs run by the Christian international relief organization. In the reception exchanges, the two side hoped for increased cooperation activities and Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng highly appreciated Samaritan's Purse’s assistance extended to people with disadvantages in Vietnam over the past years.

During the working trip to the USA, the GCRA delegation also visited the Greenville Presbyterian Church in South Carolina and the Vietnam Embassy in Washington DC.
