Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Dương Ngọc Tấn welcomed Vatican Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples to Vietnam at Noi Bai International Airport on Jan 19.
On his visit to Vietnam, scheduled from Jan 19-25, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples met with the Prime Minister and Deputy Minister of Home Affairs cum Chairman of the GCRA.
The Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples under the Roman Curia is responsible for the missionary work and related activities around the world. The Congregation is now in charge of the 1,080 dioceses under the missionary regions (mainly of Asia, Africa) including 26 dioceses in Vietnam.
Earlier, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Vietnam twice invited the Prefect of the Congregation to Vietnam, Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe in 2005 and Cardinal Ivan Dias to in 2011. On occasion of these Vietnam visit, Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe met Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Khoan and Cardinal Ivan Dias met Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng. /.
