Government religious committee leader sends letter of condolences to Catholic dignitaries

Upon the death of Archbishop Paul Bùi Văn Đọc early this month, Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Vũ Chiến Thắng sent on March 8 a letter of condolences to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City Archdiocese.
In the letter, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng praised Archbishop Paul Bùi Văn Đọc’s role in encouraging Catholics to fulfill civic duties and make practical contributions to national construction and defense. The GCRA leader also sent condolences to the former archbishop’s relatives, as well as to Catholic dignitaries and followers of the Vietnam Catholic Church in general and Ho Chi Minh City Archdiocese in particular.
Archbishop Paul Bùi Văn Đọc of Ho Chi Minh City Archdiocese died during the evening of March 6 in a Rome hospital. The archbishop served as President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Vietnam from 2013-16 and was Chairman of the Episcopal Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam before his death./.
