Government Religious Committee leader pays pre-Christmas visits to dioceses of Bac Ninh & Lang Son

Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Vũ Hoài Bắc on December 6 visited and met with Bishop of Bac Ninh diocese Joseph Đỗ Quang Khang and Bishop of Lang Son diocese Joseph Châu Ngọc Tri, ahead of Christmas 2023.

Accompanying the GCRA leader included Head of the GCRA’s Catholic Affairs Division Đinh Quang Tiến, Deputy Director of the Home Affairs Department in Lang Son province Đường Ngọc Xuyên and Vice Chairman of the Committee for Religious Affairs in Bac Ninh province Nguyễn Ngọc Toản.

During the visit, Chairman Vũ Hoài Bắc shared with the bishops about newdevelopment of the Vietnam-Vatican relations, including the approval of the Regulation on the operation of the Holy See’s Resident Representative in Vietnam on occasion of the visit by the State President of Vietnam Võ Văn Thưởng to the Vatican in July.

He affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam consistently respect and guarantee people’s right to freedom of religion and belief, create favorable conditions for practices of religions and promote fine values and resources of religions for country development.

Over the past years, Vietnam Catholic Church in general, and dioceses of Bac Ninh and Lang Son in particular have made many contributions in fields of social charities, health and education, etc. While highly appreciating practical contributions of Catholic communities to society, Chairman Vũ Hoài Bắc expressed hope that Bishop Joseph Đỗ Quang Khang and Bishop Joseph Châu Ngọc Tri would continue encouraging priests and lay Catholics of dioceses to proactively participate in patriotic movements in localities, contributing to socio-economic development of the country. 

On the occasion, Chairman Vũ Hoài Bắc extended merry Christmas 2023 and happy New Year 2024 to the Bishops, and all priests and parishioners of the two dioceses.

Bishop of Bac Ninh diocese Joseph Đỗ Quang Khang and Bishop of Lang Son diocese Joseph Châu Ngọc Tri took the chance to thank the GCRA and local authorities for due care and support extended to Catholic practiced in the localities, and pledged to continue encouraging dignitaries and lay followers to comply with the Party and State’s guidelines, policies and laws, and to join hands with local authorities in boosting sustainable development of the localities.
