Upon an invitation from the Order of Preachers, also known as the Dominican Order, Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs on July 8 visited and attended the General Elective Chapter no. 290 of the Order held in Vietnam for the first time.
Welcoming the Vietnam government religious committee official at Xuan Loc Diocese Cathedral office was Priest Master of the Order Bruno Cadore, the master’s assistant priests, Priest Head of the provincial order in Vietnam Joseph Nguyễn Đức Hòa, and Priest General Secretary of the general chapter Joseph Ngô Sĩ Đình.
Speaking at the visiting reception, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng congratulated the Order of Preachers on its General Elective Chapter no. 290 hosted in Bien Hoa City and expressed a warm welcome to provincial priors, definitors and delegates of the respective provinces participating in the order’s general chapter hosted in Vietnam for the first time.
The chairman spoke highly of positive contributions made by priests, clergymen and clergywomen of the preachers order to the provincial order and the society in Vietnam, as well as social charities implemented by the provincial preachers order in the country.
Extending successes to the 290th general chapter of the Order of Preachers, Dr. Vũ Chiến Thắng stated that the State of Vietnam consistently facilitates religious practices of religions according to a consistent framework of law, and always respects fine moral and spiritual values of religions.

On behalf of the preachers order, Priest Bruno Cadore thanked the Vietnam Government Committee for Religious Affairs for its guidance and support extended to the Dominican order, and expressed hope to receive favorable conditions for religious and social activities of the provincial order in Vietnam.
According to Priest Joseph Ngô Sĩ Đình, the 290th general chapter of the Order of Preachers, named as the Bien Hoa General Chapter, drew the participation of 150 delegates who included provincial priors, definitors and representatives of the respective provinces from 80 countries and territories.
The 290th general chapter of the preachers order started on July 8 in Xuan Loc Diocese’s Cathedral Office located in Bien Hoa City of Vietnam Southern Province of Dong Nai, and will close on August 4. This general chapter will elect the Master of the Order of Preachers who will be the 88th successor of Saint Dominic.
