Government Religious Committee extends Chol Chnam Thmay greetings to Khmer Theravada Buddhists in Mekong Delta

A delegation led by Vice Chairwoman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Trần Thị Minh Nga paid on April 11-12 visits to religious dignitaries of Khmer Theravada Buddhism in provinces and cities of Mekong Delta, on the occasion of the traditional New Year Chol Chnam Thmay of Khmer people in 2023.

GCRA delegation visits Most Venerable Deputy Patriarch of VBS Chau Ty

The GCRA official visited Most Venerable Chau Ty, Deputy Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) cum Abbot of Sa Lon pagoda located in Tri Ton district of An Giang province, and Most Venerable Đào Như and Most Venerable Thạch Sock Xane, Vice Presidents of the VBS’s Executive Council.

During the visits, while extending Chol Chnam Thmay greetings to Khmer Theravada Buddhist monks and followers, Vice Chairwoman Trần Thị Minh Nga expressed hope that the dignitaries of Khmer Theravada Buddhism would continue promoting their role in encouraging lay Buddhists to uphold fine traditions and make practical contributions for socio-economic development in the locality.

Most Venerable Chau Ty, Most Venerable Đào Như and Most Venerable Thạch Sock Xane took the chance to thank to the GCRA and local authorities for their attention and supports extended to religious practice of Khmer people over the past years.

On the occasion, Deputy Patriarch Chau Ty introduced the Buddhist scriptures written by him on “Buong” leaf since 1975, and informed about a seminar on preservation of “Buong” leaf scriptures scheduled to take place from May 10-11.
