Government Religious Committee celebrates 65th founding anniversary

The Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) held on July 31 a gathering to mark 65th founding anniversary of the GCRA and the state governance on belief and religion (August 2nd, 1955).  

The event drew presence of Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyễn Trọng Thừa, Chairman of the GCRA Vũ Chiến Thắng, Vice Chairwoman of the GCRA Trần Thị Minh Nga, Vice Chairman of the GCRA Nguyễn Ánh Chức, former leaders of the GCRA, dignitaries of religions in Hanoi and all GCRA’s officials and staffs.

On August 2, 1955, upon request by the Interior Department under the Government Office and approval by the Government Council, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued the Decree No 566-TTg on the establishment of the Committee for Religious Affairs under the Government Office – the first body of Vietnam’s current Government Committee for Religious Affairs, and the system of regional and provincial religious committees regarded as the initial system of the current state governance sector on religion.

Over the past 65 years, the GCRA has strived to successfully fulfill tasks of administrative management on religion and belief as well as encouraged religious dignitaries, deacons and lay people to observe state laws and join in movements for the socio-economic development of the country.

Under the guidance and support of the Party, State and the Ministry of Home Affairs and given close coordination with central ministries and local authorities, as well as active collaboration with religious organizations, the GCRA has strengthened its apparatus and profession for better performance of tasks of the state governance on belief and religion

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the GCRA Vũ Chiến Thắng briefed the history of the GCRA and state governance on belief and religion in the last 65 years. He also urged GCRA’s officers to uphold GCRA’s fine traditions and relentlessly enhance its professional capacity for fulfilling tasks assigned.

On the same day, the GCRA held a meeting to honor good examples in emulation movements and launch a new emulation movement for the 2021-2025 period. 

During the event, under the Prime Minister's authorization, Minister of Home Affaris Lê Vĩnh Tân handed over the PM’s painting titled “Promoting the 65-year of building and development, solidarity - creativity - responsibility - discipline” and awarded the Third-class Labor Medal to the GCRA’s Office. Chairman of the GCRA Vũ Chiến Thắng also presented the PM’s certificates of merit to the Organization and Personnel and two individuals for their practical contributions in emulation movements for the 2016-2020 period.
