Government Religious Committee asks religious organizations to continue with COVID-19 prevention measures

08/03/2020

The Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) sent on July 30 a dispatch to religious organizations asking for continuing COVID-19 prevention and control measures in the new situation.

In the document signed by Chairman of the GCRA Vũ Chiến Thắng, the committee asked leaders of religious organizations to encourage dignitaries and followers to keep a close watch on developments of the pandemic and not to popularize inaccurate information about the situation. Leaders of religious organizations were also requested to avoid holdings of religious events with large gatherings.

The government religious committee called for the observance of prevention measures like wearing face masks in public places, avoiding unnecessary large gatherings and cleaning hands with soap regularly.

For religious organizations in the central city of Da Nang, home to the country’s first locally-transmitted COVID-19 outbreak after nearly 100 days, the GCRA’s dispatch requests them to follow regulations on social distancing in line with the Prime Minister’s Directive No. 16/CT-TTg and guidelines of local authorities, while coordinating with local medical agencies and authorities in disinfecting worshipping places.

The GCRA urged leaders of religious organizations to check and encourage dignitaries and followers who visited Da Nang or other pandemic-hit areas as from July 8 to make medical declarations and quarantine themselves.

Leaders of religious organizations have been asked to guide Vietnamese religious overseas to make medical declarations and quarantine themselves when returning the home country.
