Government Committee for Religious Affairs welcomes US House Committee on Foreign Affairs delegation

On August 8, 2013, at the headquarter of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, Mr. Nguyễn Hữu Nhường, Chief of the Office of the Committee, had a working session with a delegation from the United States House of Representatives’ Committee on Foreign Affairs led by Mr. Hunter Strupp, an analyst for Asia Policy.
Attending the meeting were also leaders and officials from the Government Committee for Religious Affairs’ Departments of International Cooperation, Protestant Affairs, Legislation – Inspection, and Statistics.
At the reception, Mr. Nhường welcomed the delegation’s Vietnam visit and expressed the willingness to share information of the guests’ concern.
On behalf of the US delegation, Mr. Hunter Strupp thanked the Government Committee for Religious Affairs for its warm welcome and expressed his wish to learn about local people’s religious life as well as the registration for recognition of religious organizations in Vietnam in recent years.
Mr. Nhường briefed the guests on the religious situation as well as the guidelines and policies of the Party and State of Vietnam on belief and religion over the past time. He affirmed that Vietnam is a multi–religion country with many religious followers. The Party and State of Vietnam always pay attention to the people’s life and need for belief and religion, as well as respect and guarantee their right to freedom of belief and religion. All religious organizations are equal before the law. Moreover, the Government of Vietnam also creates favorable conditions for them to register for recognition.
On behalf of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, Mr. Nhường highly valued the visit’s purpose and expected that the two sides will have more cooperation opportunities in the coming time.
