Government Committee for Religious Affairs visits and congratulates the central Vietnam Buddhist Sangha on occasion of Summer Retreat

On August 16th 2014, at the Office 1 of the central Vietnam Buddhist Sangha  (VBS) (No. 73 Quan Su pagoda, Hanoi), the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) delegation led by Mr. Phạm Dũng, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Chairman of the GCRA visited and congratulated the VBS on occasion of Summer Retreat.

Joining the visiting delegation was Mr. Nguyễn Thanh Sơn, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the Russian Federation.

Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, Standing Vice President of the Executive Council cum General Secretary of the VBS and Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Standing Vice President of Executive Council of the VBS welcomed the delegation.

On behalf of the GCRA, Mr. Phạm Dũng highlighted achievements in Buddhist activities of the VBS over the past time, especially the successful organization of Vesak Day. Mr. Phạm Dũng also said that the VBS from central level to local level held the Buddhist Parents’ Day Festival demonstrating deeply humanistic values and contributing to preserve and promote fine ethnic values of Vietnam, especially the filial piety in the modern life, and that in summer retreat this year, Buddhists monks and nuns and followers in all over the country joint together in unity to practice the religion. He expected that the Central VBS will continue to guide Buddhist monks and nuns, and followers to preserve and promote ethical values​​, comply with the law and the Charter and regulations of the VBS, jointly contributing to the development of the homeland.

Speaking at the meeting reception, Mr. Nguyễn Thanh Sơn expressed his thanks to dignitaries of the Central VBS. He hoped that, in the integration period, Buddhism would further strengthen relationship and cooperation with other Buddhist countries in the world.

On behalf of the Central VBS, Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn expressed that the GCRA and Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to support and creat favorable conditions for religious organizations in general, the VBS in particularly in religious activities. He also emphasized that the VBS will stay closely attached to and accompanied with the local authorities for building the country.

On this occasion, the VBS presented a certificate of merit to leaders, former leaders of the GCRA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Department  of Buddhist Affairs under the GCRA for excellent achievements contributing to propagating the Buddhist Dharma

Later, the GCRA’s delegation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Central VBS offered incense to commemorate the death anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh.
