Government Committee for Religious Affairs receives Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief of the UN

On July 22, 2014, at the headquarters of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA), Mr. Bùi Thanh Hà received Mr. Heiner Bielefeldt - Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief of the UN on the occasion of his working visit to Vietnam from 21st to 31st July 2014

Attending the reception were also leaders and officials from the Committee Office and Departments of International Cooperation, Legislation and Inspection.

Overview of the reception

At the reception, Mr. Bùi Thanh Hà briefed the guest on the religious situation in Vietnam as well as the guidelines and policies of the Party and State on belief and religion over the past time. He affirmed that Vietnam is a multi–religion country with many religious followers. The Vietnamese Party and State always pay due attention to the people’s life and their need for belief and religion. All religious organizations are equal before the law. Vietnam consistently respects and guarantees citizens’ right to freedom of belief and religion as indicated clearly in legal documents such as the Constitution, Ordinance on Belief and Religion and Decree No. 92/2012/ND-CP detailing and providing measures for the implementation of the Ordinance on Belief and Religion. In addition, the Vietnamese Government has also created favorable conditions for religious organizations to apply for state registration and recognition./.

On behalf of the delegation, Mr. Heiner Bielefeldt thanked the Government Committee for Religious Affairs for the information on religion and policies in Vietnam and  said he looked forward to have further opportunities in order to learn more about the Vietnam’s religious life in the coming time.
