Government Committee for Religious Affairs leader receives EU diplomat

Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Bui Thanh Ha met with EU diplomat in charge of relations with Vietnam Konstantinn Von Mentzingen on December 10 on occasion of his visit to Hanoi.

Joining the meeting were Mrs. Delphine Malard, First Counselor, Head of Information and Press Division of the EU mission in Hanoi, and representatives from related departments under the GCRA.

At the meeting, Mr. Bùi Thanh Hà highly appreciated cooperation activities between the GCRA and the EU in recent years, especially the organization of international seminars on religious freedom and training conference for local officials working in the area of religious affairs in 2014. He also expressed his wish to receive further supports from EU in organizing religious conferences, training workshops and sharing of experiences in ensuring religious freedom in EU’s member states, contributing to the current drafting of laws on religion in Vietnam.

Speaking at the meeting reception, Konstantinn Von Mentzinggen spoke highly of positive changes of religious life in Vietnam and said Vietnam and EU share many similarities in the issues of religious freedom. He also hoped Vietnam will effectively implement human rights provisions prescribed in Constitution 2013 as well as commitments made by Viet Nam as a  member of the Human Rights Council

The two sides agreed to promote further exchanges and cooperation in the field of religious affairs, contributing to enhance the strategic and comprehensive relation between Vietnam and the EU.
