Government Committee for Religious Affairs leader attends coordination program between the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam and the National Traffic Safety Committee

On November 9th, 2014, at Ho Chi Minh city archdiocese (No. 180, Nguyen Dinh Chieu streer, ward 6, district 3, Ho Chi Minh city), the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam signed a coordination program with the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) to promote the implementation of Catholic dignitaries, priests and followers engage in ensuring traffic safety.
Minister of Transport cum Standing Vice Chairman of the NTSC Đinh La Thăng and Archbishop Bùi Văn Đọc, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam (CBCV) co-chaired the signing ceremony.
State guests at the ceremony included Mr. Phạm Dũng, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs cum Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA), representatives from the Ministry of Security, Ministry of Transport and priests from Ho Chi Minh city Archdiocese.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Đinh La Thăng informed about traffic safety situation as well as traffic accidents in the whole country. "I believe that after this agreement, the exemplary compliance with traffic laws of Catholic dignitaries, priests and followers will be very pervasive in the community, contributing to build traffic safety culture and prevent traffic accidents" he said.
Archbishop Bùi Văn Đọc thanked Minister Đinh La Thăng and expressed his pleasure to hear about previous reduction of traffic accidents. He also said that the CBCV will quickly disseminate for Catholic dignitaries and followers in order to raise awareness of traffic safety.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Chairman of the GCRA Phạm Dũng expressed his hope that after signing ceremony, the CBCV will disseminate the ensuring traffic safety program to seminaries, parishes, orders in order for dignitaries, clergy, seminarians and followers to actively participate in ensuring traffic safety. /.
