A Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) led by Deputy Director of Catholic Affairs Department Nguyễn Dương Long visited Vinh diocese ahead of the upcoming traditional New Year 2016 on January 24.
Bishop Paul Nguyễn Thái Hợp of Vinh diocese welcomed the GCRA delegation.
During the visiting reception, on behalf of the GCRA, Deputy Director Nguyễn Dương Long extended Tet greetings to bishops, priests and Catholic followers in the diocese and expressed hope that bishops, auxiliary bishops, priests in the diocese would make further contributions to improve local people’s life and continue encouraging Catholics to well observe the state laws and actively participate in the patriotic emulation movements, contributing to the social-economic development of the country.
Bishop Nguyễn Thái Hợp took the chance to thank the GCRA and the Catholic Affairs Department for its attention and support extended to the diocese in religious activities over the past years.
Vinh diocese was established in 1946, currently has 16 deaneries, 150 parishes, 11 communities with nearly 490,000 followers.
On this occasion, the GCRA delegation also visited and extended Tet wishes to Bishop Paul Maria Cao Đình Thuyên, who is currently 90 years old in the diocese.
