On February 22, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam’s Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Dương Ngọc Tấn hosted a reception with Chairman of the Subcommittee on Human Rights under the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Pier Antonio Panzeri.
Joining the reception included Parliamentarians of the European Parliament and representatives of the GCRA’s office and departments.
Speaking at the reception, Vice Chairman Dương Ngọc Tấn affirmed that the State of Vietnam always respects and guarantees everyone’s right to freedom of belief and religion, and creates favorable conditions for religious organizations to apply for State recognition in the framework of the Vietnamese laws.
Mentioning the Vietnam’s Law on Belief and Religion, the GCRA’s Vice Chairman stated that the new law aims to institutionalize Vietnam’s policies on belief and religion, as well as accord the international covenants that Vietnam has signed. The law on belief and religion which will take effect on January 1, 2018 is an important legal document for better ensuring the right to freedom of belief and religion for religious organizations, he added.
The European Parliament’s delegates also took the chance to exchange with the hosts on several religious issues and contents of the Vietnam’s Law on Belief and Religion, including the registration of religious activities and the use of books on belief and religion in religious organizations.
