Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Vũ Chiến Thắng led on May 5 a delegation to visit to the Southern office of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council and high-ranking Buddhist dignitaries in Ho Chi Minh City on occasion of Buddha’s Birthday 2020 (B.E. 2564).
Welcoming the GCRA leader included Most Venerable Vice President of the Central VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thiện Pháp and dignitaries from the VBS Southern office.
At the visiting reception, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng conveied congratulatory greetings of the Party and State leaders to the VBS’s dignitaries and Buddhist monks, nuns and followers on occasion of the Buddha Birthday Festival 2020. He spoke highly of religions in general and Buddhism in particular in the observation of Government’s directives and regulations on Covid-19 prevention and control recently.
As reported, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the VBS has suspended all traditional festivals and large Buddhist gatherings as well as enhanced Buddhist propagation and teachings online. Buddhist organizations and followers have contributed over 20 billion VND to the Covid-19 prevention and control.
Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng also called on dignitaries of the VBS’s Discernment Council and Executive Council to continue setting examples and encourage Buddhist followers to observe regulations on pandemic prevention and control by concerning agencies.
Earlier, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng visited and extended the Buddha’s birthday greetings to Most Venerable Deputy Patriarch Thích Trí Quảng, Most Venerable Deputy Patriarch of the VBS Thích Đức Nghiệp and Most Venerable Thích Giác Toàn, Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council.
