Chief Executive Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Bùi Thanh Hà chaired a meeting on July 29 to gather comments on a project for supporting religious activities of Vietnamese overseas.
Attending the meeting held in the GCRA office included leaders of the GCRA departments and members of the GCRA’s Scientific Council.
During the meeting, delegates commented on the necessity of the project for supporting religious activities of Vietnamese overseas both aboard and in Vietnam, and agreed that creating favorable conditions for religious activities of Vietnamese overseas would foster exchanges and international integration in the field of religion, as well as contribute to promote investment and remittances of the Vietnamese community abroad.
There are currently about 4.5 million Vietnamese are living, working or studying in 109 countries and territories around the world in which 80% of them are followers of religions.
After this meeting, the Institute for Religious Policy Studies under the GCRA will submit a report to Minister of Home Affairs and Prime Minister.
The first phase of the project on religious practices of Vietnamese overseas is expected to be carried out from 2016 to 2020.
