Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Vũ Chiến Thắng hosted on May 22 a reception for Pastor Chad Hammond, Director of Asian Affairs for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA).

Joining the reception included representatives from the GCRA’s departments for international relation, Protestant affairs and the committee office.

During the visiting reception, Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng and Pastor Chad Hammond had exchanges on Protestantism in Vietnam as well as the state’s policies and laws creating favorable condition for religious practices of religions in the country in general and Protestant community in particular. He also highlighted international religious events successfully held in Vietnam, including the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation held in Hanoi in 2018 and the UN Day of Vesak 2019 in Ha Nam this year.
The GCRA Chairman informed the guests the implementation of the Law on Belief and Religion since it took effect in January 2018. As part of its results, the GCRA handed over the operation registration certificate to the Vietnam United Gospel Outreach Church and the Vietnam Full Gospel Church in 2018.
Chairman Vũ Chiến Thắng took the chance to thank to the BGEA for their practical contributions to the social development in Vietnam.
Pastor Chad Hammond spoke highly of Vietnam’s policies and laws on belief and religion as well as GCRA’s efforts in guaranteeing the right to freedom of belief and religion in the country.
On this occasion, the pastor exchanged with the host the possibility of holding a Protestant festival in Ho Chi Minh City in the future.
