Deputy Minister of Home Affairs extends Vesak greetings to VBS in Quang Ninh

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng visited and met with Most Venerable Thích Thanh Quyết, Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Quang Ninh province on May 18, ahead of the Buddha’s Birthday 2021 (B.E. 2565).

Accompanying the Deputy Minister included Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Nguyễn Tiến Trọng and representatives of Quang Ninh authorities.

During the visiting reception, while extending best wishes and happy celebrations of Vesak Day to Most Venerable Thích Thanh Quyết, Buddhist dignitaries and laypeople in the locality, Deputy Minister Vũ Chiến Thắng spoke highly of the VBS’s contributions in Quang Ninh for socio-economic development in the country, including the COVID-19 prevention and control.

He also expressed that the provincial VBS would encourage monks, nuns and lay Buddhists to proactively join hands with local authorities in the Covid-19 prevention work as well as participate the 15th National Assembly (NA) and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure.

For his part, Most Venerable Thích Thanh Quyết, who is also a deputy of the 14th National Assembly and Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council shared with the guests Buddhist affairs over the past years. The provincial VBS has closely worked with local authorities in charities and other social programs and movements, the Most Venerable affirmed.

Most Venerable Thích Thanh Quyết affirmed that the provincial VBS would continue guiding monks, nuns and lay Buddhists to strictly comply with the Party and State’s directives on the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as fulfill citizens’ obligations in the 15th National Assembly (NA) and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure.
