The Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) held on April 14 a meeting with relevant agencies to solve problems relating religious information as part of registration procedures for a chip-based identification card (e-ID card).
The event was chaired by Vice Chairman of the GCRA Nguyễn Tiến Trọng, and attended by representatives from the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization, the Ministry of Public Security, and heads of the GCRA’s departments.
As reported, the Ministry of Public Security has been implementing the National Population Database Project and the e-ID card Issuance Project, and expected to issue e-ID cards to 50 million citizens by July 1 this year.
The meeting pointed out some difficulties and problems when collecting religious information of religious followers in the registration form for e-ID card issue, such as each locality has different requirements, creating confusions for religious followers.
Addressing at the event, Vice Chairman of the GCRA Nguyễn Tiến Trọng highlighted the need for creating favorable conditions in registration of e-ID cards for religious as well as ensuring the right to freedom of belief and religion of the people.
The Vice Chairman urged the Ministry of Public Security to issue a guiding document on this religious information declaration, suiting the current situation.
He also asked for a close collaboration amongst related agencies to solving specific issues in e-ID card registration procedures for religious followers, contributing to better implement the Party and State’s guidelines and policies on belief and religion.
