Thanh Hoa province honors Catholics for community work

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Thanh Hoa province held on May 24 a meeting to honor Catholic followers in the province for their social contributions in the 2007-2017 period.

The meeting was chaired by Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in the province, and attended by Priest Acting Chairman of the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics Trần Xuân Mạnh, representatives from the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Chapter in the province, Thanh Hoa Protestant Church and 125 typical dignitaries, deacons and followers in the province.

As reported at the meeting, over the past years, Catholic followers in the locality have proactively engaged in movements launched by local authorities for improving the economic and cultural life and ensuring social order in the locality.

Catholic communities have contributed over VND 179 billion to the development of rural areas. Many parishes and Catholic families have been awarded the titles “the advanced parish”, “typical Catholic families”.

On this occasion, 125 Catholics received certificates of merit from the provincial authorities for their outstanding social achievements in the 2007-2017 period.

Currently, Thanh Hoa province is home to 147,000 Catholics living in 450 communes of 25 districts and wards in the province. Thanh Hoa diocese consists of 60 parishes and 363 congregations with 60 churches and 114 chapels.
