Southwestern Steering Committee extends traditional New Year visits to Khmer people

On occasion of the traditional New Year Chol Chnam Thmay, the Southwestern Steering Committee visited and presented gifts to Khmer communities in cities and provinces of Can Tho, Bac Lieu and Soc Trang on April 9.

In Can Tho city, Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee Nguyễn Phong Quang led a delegation to visit and present gifts to three Khmer pagodas, 15 Khmer poor families and the city Association for Solidarity of Patriotic Buddhist Monks.

The same day, another committee delegation led by Vice Chairman Trần Phi Hổ and representatives from the local authorities of Soc Trang province visited and presented gifts the provincial Patriotic Clergy Solidarity Association, Khmer pagodas (including Khleang pagoda, Kom Pong Ta Anh pagoda and Prek On Đok pagoda) and typical Khmer people and followers in the locality.

Meanwhile, the Bac Lieu provincial People’s Committee, People’s Council and Vietnam Fatherland Front in collaboration with the Southwestern Steering Committee held a Khmer traditional New Year gathering with over 500 Khmer Buddhists and outstanding people. The provincial authorities have also organized delegation visits to local pagodas to congratulate Khmer Buddhist on their traditional new year festival.
