The Southwest Steering Committee on July 22 held a meeting to sum up its operation in the first half of the year 2015 and map out tasks for the rest of the year.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Văn Ninh, Chairman of the Committee and attended by representative leaders from the concerning ministries, central agencies and provinces in the Mekong Delta region.
According to the conference report, the Mekong Delta region has progressed steadily over the past six months. Growth has been recorded in agricultural and industrial production, trade, services and tourism. Due attention paid to socio-cultural issues, social welfare and policies for ethnic minorities and religious groups, as well as defense and security brought practical results.
At the meeting, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs cum Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Phạm Dũng briefed about religious situation in the first six months and highlighted that religious activities in the regions have been conducted normally and on frequent basis, and the Government Committee for Religious Affairs has worked in close coordination with the Southwest Steering Committee, ministries and agencies for disseminating state’s policies and laws on belief and religion and timely solving issues relating to religious affairs in the region.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy PM Vũ Văn Ninh hailed the achievements of local authorities in the Southwest region over the first six months. He called upon the localities in collaboration with relevant ministries and agencies to implement key tasks in the last six months, restructure its agricultural sector, build new-style rural areas, and strive towards sustainable poverty alleviation.
