Seminar on engagement of religious women in Central Highlands in environmental protection held in Đăk Lăk

On June 2, the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) in collaboration with the Central Highlands Steering Committee held a seminar with the theme “Religious women in Central Highlands protect the environment, contributing to build a new-model rural countryside” in Đắk Lắk province’s Buon Ma Thuot city. 

The event was co-chaired by Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Tấn Hùng, Vice Chairman of the Central Highlands Steering Committee Điển K’Ré and Head of the VWU’s Department for Ethnic and Religious Affairs Trịnh Thị Thu Thủy, and attended by representatives of the Women Union from five Central Highlands provinces, and large numbers of women who are dignitaries, deacons, clergywomen and followers from religious organizations. 

Presentations by participating religious women during the seminar focused on the viewpoints on the environmental issues, the relationship between the natural environment and the human life, impacts of climate change and effects of human actions that have been damaging the environment under the religious perspectives. In addition, they also proposed short-term and long-term solutions for gathering the strength and resources of religious organizations and women unions at all levels to the common task of protecting environment, as well as called on religious women to actively and voluntarily make practical activities for environmental protection. 

The event contributed to enhance the role, responsibility and practical contributions of religious organizations, and religious women in environmental protection and climate change.
