Religions in Dong Thap contribute to create peaceful border with Cambodian province

Contributions to creating the peaceful bordering area with Cambodia by religions in Dong Thap province have been acknowledged at a meeting held on January 12.

The meeting was held by Dong Thap provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in collaboration with the provincial Border Command for reviewing activities for ensuring the province’s peaceful bordering area with the Cambodian province of PrâyVeng.

As reported at the meeting, followers of religions in the province’s bordering area have proactively responded to social movements and programs for ensuring social welfare and security. Religious followers have joint the border force for building 191 houses and upgrade 37 other for the poor; conducting free health checks and providing free medicines for over 11,000 people, presentation of 10 ton of rice to poor locals, 128 wheelchairs to people with disabilities; providing 524 packets of supports to excellent pupils and 10,200 notebooks to local children; presenting nearly 13,000 support packets to orphans, victims of orange agent dioxin,… as well as providing clean water for people living in bordering areas.

So far, contributions of religious followers in the bordering area in Dong Thap province to social welfare for people in the provincial border have been valued at VND 7.311 billion in total. These contributions have practically helped boosting socio-economic development and maintaining social security in the border.

Dong Thap province has three districts with 8 communes bordering with Prayveng province of Cambodia, and the province is home to followers of Buddhism, Catholicism, Caodaism and Hoa Hao Buddhism.
