The Central Highlands province of Lam Dong should continue making use of its advantages in terms of climate and natural resources to promote agriculture, forestry, aquaculture, tourism, services and mineral processing industries to ensure sustainable development.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the request while working in with key local officials on June 4.

Speaking at the working session, PM Phuc hailed the province’s efforts in realising socio-economic targets over the past years. The province recorded 14.1% growth in GDP, a per capita income of VND45.5 million. To date, Lam Dong has 42 communes that have successfully met new-style rural area standards.

Blessed with a temperate climate and abundant natural resources, Lam Dong should focus investment on turning the tourism and services sectors into its flagship industries, the PM said.

More attention should be paid to applying science and technology and improve the quality of development in high-tech agriculture, and the development of a forestry-driven economy, which, he said, would help the province to reduce its poverty rate and improve the living conditions of ethnic minority groups.

He also stressed the need to better manage forests and plantations by reforming mechanisms and policies, and devise a sound management model to improve production and trading efficiency.

During his trip to Lam Dong, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc paid a visit and presented gifts to outstanding policy beneficiaries in N’Thol Ha commune – a locality in Duc Trong district with 81% of the population are ethnic people and 80% of the residents are religious followers.
