On June 15, Director of Home Affairs Department in Tien Giang province Võ Tấn Hiền led a delegation at a visiting reception with the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Board in the province’s Tan Phuoc district based in Linh Phuoc pagoda.
During the visiting reception, Venerable Head of the district VBS’s Executive Board Thích Đức Thắng exchanged with the guests on Buddhist affairs in the first six months of 2017 which include the organizing of the Buddha’s birthday festival, participation in the summer retreat by monks and nuns in the district, as well as a contribution of over VND 2 billion to social charities by local Buddhists.
Director Võ Tấn Hiền took the chance to share about the new Law on belief and religion that will take effect in 2018. According to the director, Tan Phuoc, a remote district of Tien Giang province is currently home to over 1,700 Buddhist followers with seven worshipping temples.
