Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Đinh La Thăng on March 25 extended greetings to local Catholic dignitaries and followers on the upcoming Easter holiday.
Meeting with Archbishop of the Ho Chi Minh City Archdiocese Bùi Văn Đọc, who is also President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Vietnam, the official briefed him on the city’s socio-economic situation in 2015, as well as goals set for the time ahead.
HCM City is focusing all resources on socio-economic development and social welfare in order to become a civilised and modern city, he said, adding that a range of drastic measures have been taken to reduce crime and ensure traffic safety.
Secretary Đinh La Thăng noted his hope that the Archbishop and other Catholic dignitaries will contribute more to consolidating the national great unity bloc and encourage local Catholics to continue participating in patriotic movements.
For his part, Archbishop Bùi Văn Đọc promised that he would encourage local Catholic followers to join efforts in building a city with a high quality of life, as well as national construction and development.
