Head of the Central Mass Mobilization Commission Trương Thị Mai on May 9 visited and extended greetings to leaders of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in Hanoi on the occasion of the Buddha’s birthday.
Mai was accompanied by representatives of the Fatherland Front and the Government Committee for Religious Affairs.
At the meeting, Mai extended her best wishes to Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council and other Buddhist dignitaries, while highly praising Buddhism’s contributions to national construction.
She affirmed that the Party and State always respect the wishes of Buddhist adherents and create all necessary conditions for them to uphold the tradition of protecting the nation.
Mai also wished the VBS to hold the 8th National Buddhist Congress for the 2017-2022 term successfully.
While expressing his delight at the delegation’s visit, Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu announced that provincial Buddhist conventions will be completed by September, after which the national congress will take place in November.
He added that in the past five years, the VBS has achieved significant results in many aspects, from education at Buddhist schools to charitable work which provided financial support for those in disadvantaged situations.
