Cau Ngu festival in Quang Binh has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as one of eight new national intangible cultural heritages by a decision dated on October 30, 2018.

Cau Ngu or Whale worshipping festival is a long tradition of coastal fishermen in Quang Trach, Quang Ninh, Le Thuy districts, Ba Don town and Dong Hoi city in Quang Binh province. The festival aims to preserve the fishing tradition and pray for peace and successful fishing trips for the local fishermen.

The recognition of the festival as a national intangible cultural heritage will help preserving values of spiritual traditions and contributing to strengthen community cohesion as well as protect the national sovereignty over islands.
