Binh Duong province: Religious organizations engage in environmental protection

Binh Duong provincial authorities and religious organizations in the locality have signed a coordinating program on environmental protection and climate change adaptation for 2016-2020 period.

The signing event was co-organized by the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee, Department of Natural Resources and Environment in collaboration with religious organizations in the locality.

The coordinating program on environmental protection and climate change adaptation in Binh Duong province focused on key tasks, including provision of self-help skills in disaster, flood, drought, tsunami; strengthening of awareness and capacity on environmental protection and climate change adaptation to religious communities and local residents; expansion of successful models for environmental protection and climate change response amongst religious communities; and encouragement for the use of renewable energy, food and the protection of trees in the religious establishments and residential areas.

From 2017, the coordinating program will be reviewed every six months in order to summarize lessons from practical application and expand pilot models which achieved good results.

According to the approved plan up to 2020, each commune will have at least one model of religious communities participating in environmental protection and climate change adaptation.
