On occasion of Chol Chnam Thmay Festival (the traditional New Year) of Khmer people, Chairman of An Giang provincial People’s Council Võ Anh Kiệt led a delegation to visit Khmer pagodas on April 6.

The delegation visited Soai So pagoda in Tri Ton district and My A pagoda in Tinh Bien district.

At visiting places, Deputy Secretary Võ Anh Kiệt extended his best wishes to Khmer dignitaries and Buddhist followers on occasion of their traditional New Year festival and encouraged Khmer Buddhists and people to strengthen solidarity and closely work with local authorities for community development. He also highlighted key roles of Khmer pagodas in ensuring the implementation of state policies and laws.

Just like Vietnamese people’s Tet festival (traditional Lunar New Year) in the first lunar month, people often pray for good luck and prosperity during Chol Chnam Thmay festival. The festival also marks the end of droughty weather and start of the favorable climate for bumper crops.
