The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) in Quang Binh province has had a meeting with the provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee to review the coordinated programs 2018 and outlined collaboration activities 2019.
The event saw the participation of Vice Chairman of the provincial VFF Hoàng Văn Minh, Most Venerable Chairman of the VBS Chapter in the province Thích Tánh Nhiếp, members of the ethnic – religious affairs board under the provincial VFF and members of the VBS executive committee in the province.
Over the past year, the provincial VFF and the VBS Executive Committee organized 9 training conferences on environment protection and climate change adaption for 840 district and commune – level VFF’s officials, expanded a pilot model for hunger eradiation-poverty reduction and environment protection – climate change adaption in Quang Xa pagoda located in Quang Ninh district, and maintained the operation of other 14 pilot models established in Catholic concentrated areas.
The provincial VBS has issued a message on environment protection and climate change adaption to Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the province for incorporating contents of the signed program on environment protection and climate change adaption into Buddhist preaching and teaching classes. It also mobilized resources from sponsors and Buddhists for funding social and charitable activities. As a result, the VBS executive board in Le Thuy district and Hoang Phuc pagoda have presented support valued at VND 800 million to 120 poor households in Le Thuy district.
During the meeting, the two sides also pledged to work together for developing from two to three pilot models on environment protection, nominating outstanding Buddhists to join the executive bodies of the VFF for the 2019-2024 tenure, as well as providing prompt support to the advantaged, especially victims of natural calamities.
