Religious followers in Binh Thuan engage in public security protection movement

Binh Thuan authorities held on September 27 a meeting to review the ten-year implementation of the Resolution No. 09 of the Ministry of Public Security on promoting all people’s engagement to national security protection in religious communities in the province for the 2014 – 2024 period.

As reported at the event, over the past ten years, local religious monastics and lay followers have made practical contributions to public security in the province.

In particular, for the ten past years, religious followers in the province have provided 3,719 pieces of information for clarifying 1,207 cases and arresting 1,347 violators in the locality. Every year, over 85% of communes, wards and towns in the province have met standards for safety public and order.

In addition, religious monastics and followers have actively engaged in patriotic movements and campaigns launched by local authorities. The provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Commitee have spent on 50 billion VND on the assistance of disaster relief, the construction of charity houses and rural roads. The provincial Protestant representative commitee and other evangelical churches have repaired 40 houses for the poor, presented 100 bicycles and thousands of gift sets to children with a total contribution of 8.3 billion VND. Catholic parishes have also actively coordinated with local authorities to take care for the poor and support funding for local infrastructure construction with a total value of tens of billions of VND.

On the occasion, the provinical Public Security Department presented certificates of merit to 18 collectives and 34 individuals for their outstanding contributions in national security protection in religious community.

Binh Thuan has currently eight operative religions of Buddhism, Catholicism, Protestantism, Caodaism, the Pure-land Buddhist Associaiton, Baha’i faith, Islam and Brahmanism with about 496,295 followers, accounting for 39.44% of the provincial population, 1,852 dignitaries, 3,979 deacons and 507 worshipping places.
