VFF leader discusses religious affairs with Dong Nai provincial government

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Dr. Trần Thanh Mẫn had a working meeting with Dong Nai provincial authorities on April 19.  

Joining the meeting included Vice President of the VFF central committee Ngô Sách Thực, Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Tấn Hùng, Secretary of Dong Nai provincial Party Committee Nguyễn Phú Cường, and representatives of concerning provincial departments and offices.

 Overview of the meeting

Regarding religious affairs, the provincial VFF committee informed at the meeting that most of dignitaries and followers of religions in the province have proactively joint social programs and movements launched by local authorities; religions in the province annually contributes about VND 200 billion to social and humanitarian activities, including medical charities to the disadvantaged and supports to the poor though education and vocational trainings, etc.

Speaking at the meeting, President Trần Thanh Mẫn, who is also Member of the Party’s Central Committee, praised local authorities for their efforts in the state governance on religion and the mass mobilization work towards religious communities. The VFF leader also stressed the need for the strict and consistent implementation of the Law on Belief and Religion.

Currently, Dong Nai province is home to approximated two million religious followers belonging to 42 organizations of ten religions (including Buddhism, Catholicism, Caodaism and Hoa Hao Buddhism), accounting for nearly 70% of the total provincial population.
