Gia Lai provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) held on August 9 a conference to review patriotic movements in the Catholic community in the province in the 2012-2017 period.
As reported at the event, over the past five years, patriotic movements amongst Catholic followers in Gia Lai province have made practical contributions to socio-economic development in the locality. Besides actively participating in social movements launched by provincial authorities, local parishioners also donated lands and contributed tens of thousand working days and hundreds of million VND for building public facilities.
Up to now, more than 2,000 villages in the province have community centers. Every year, 100% residential areas having Catholic residents register to build cultural residential areas. In 2017, nearly 25,000 Catholic families received the title “cultural family” and over 1,500 residential areas recognized as cultural residential areas.
During the meeting, local authorities presented certificates of merits to 60 Catholic individuals for their outstanding contributions in the patriotic movements during the past five years.
Gia Lai province currently has five operative religions with 400,000 followers including nearly 125,000 Catholics.
