Thanh Hoa authorities speed up house construction for disadvantaged Catholics living in rivers

The Party’s Committee in Thanh Hoa province held on April 16 a meeting to implement a project on construction of charity houses for disadvantaged Catholic households living in rivers in the locality.

As reported, Thanh Hoa provincial authorities will in 2023 allocate land and provide financial support for the construction of houses for 357 disadvantaged Catholic households who are living in local rivers in seven districts of Yen Dinh, Tho Xuan, Thieu Hoa, Vinh Loc, Cam Thuy, Thach Thanh and Thanh Hoa city.

Speaking at the event, Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee Đỗ Trọng Hưng informed that after 17 years, Thanh Hoa government has provided land and built 812 charity houses for poor Catholics living on the river. Local authorities have made great efforts to support Catholic countrymen living in the river to settle down in land.

Secretary Đỗ Trọng Hưng suggested that district authorities should establish resettlement areas for these Catholic families. Local authorities and priests should encouraged parishioners not to transfer allocated lands to others and persuade them to settle on their allocated land.

On this occasion, Secretary Đỗ Trọng Hưng and Bishop of Thanh Hoa diocese Joseph Nguyễn Đức Cường visited the Catholic residential area in Due Thon village of Dinh Tien commune and presented relief gifts to 51 disadvantaged Catholic households living in the river in communes of Dinh Hai, Dinh Tien and Dinh Cong of Yen Dinh district.
