Strengthening soldier-Catholic relation in Ba Ria - Vung Tau

The Catholic community in Ba Ria – Vung Tau currently has 87 Catholic parishes and congregations with 261 parishioners.

Over the past years, the provincial military command paid due attention for maintaining and strengthening good relations with local Catholic organizations, contributing to consolidate the all-people defense in the locality.

The armed forces in the province have extended annual visits to Catholic dignitaries and followers on occasion of Christmas festival or Lunar New Year, as well as organized frequent exchanges with local Catholic organizations and key Catholic adherents.

Most recently, the military command of Ba Ria – Vung Tau organized a friendly volleyball competition with Catholic parishes of Son Binh and Suoi Rao in Chau Duc district, and Hoa Hoi in Xuyen Moc district in January 25.

Nguyễn Chí Thống, a practitioner of Hoa Hoi parishes informed that a lot of exchanges during the competition practically contributed to enhance mutual understanding between soldiers and Catholic believers in the province.

Earlier, on occasion of Christmas 2018 Military Commander of Ba Ria – Vung Tau Colonel Phạm Phú Ý led a delegation to extend congratulations and presents gifts to key Catholic dignitaries and parishes of Hoa Hoi (Xuyen Moc district, Long Tan (Dat Do district), and Suoi Rao and Son Binh (Chau Duc district).

In addition, units of the military command of Ba Ria – Vung Tau have often collaborated with concerning local competent authorities in organizing medical charity programs, inducing free health-check and medicines, for supporting local Catholics.
