Restoration of Con Son pagoda in Ha Tinh province started

Ha Tinh province’s Huong Son district authorities in collaboration with T&T group held on August 4 the ground-breaking ceremony for starting the restoration of Con Son pagoda located in Son Tien commune’s Con Son village.  

Attending the event included Vice Chairman of the provincial Party’s Committee Trần Thế Dũng, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Võ Trọng Hải, representatives from local authorities, and some local Buddhists.

According to historical documents, Con Son pagoda was built in 15th century, belonging to the system of monuments and ramparts of Do Gia base of the Lam Son uprising (Huong Son now). And by local documents, the pagoda was formerly a place to reserve food, wealth and weapons of Lam Son insurgents.

After that, Nguyễn Trãi built the pagoda and named it Con Son as a reward for the people who helped the insurgents to fight enemies.

The pagoda originally worshiped Buddha only. Later, in order to commemorate Nguyễn Trãi's great contributions the country and its people, after his death, he and his wife were worshiped by local people in the pagoda.

Every year on the day of 1st day and 15th day of the lunar month, Buddha's birthday, festivals, local people and pilgrims usually come to the pagoda to pray for peace and  prosperity.

The pagoda was built on area of 6,548 m2, surrounded by many trees and tea gardens. The pagoda currently preserves six Buddha statues, one Nguyễn Trãi statue and one Nguyễn Thị Lộ statue.

The restoration of the pagoda with the investment cost of 28 billion VND is expected to be completed in 18 months.

Con Son pagoda has been classified as a historical – cultural relic site by the provincial People Committee in 2005.
