Ministry of Home Affairs, Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs hold exchanges on religious life in ethnic minorities

A delegation from the Ministry of Home Affairs had exchanges with the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs on belief and religious affairs in ethnic communities at a meeting held on March 9.

The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng and Deputy Minister- Vice Chairman of Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Y Thông, and attended by Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Vũ Hoài Bắc, concerning departments and divisions of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the GCRA.

As reported at the event, Vietnam has currently 53 ethnic minority groups with over 14 million people. Over the past years, the Party and the State have issued policies on socio-economic development for ethnic minority communities and achieved great results, creating many positive impacts on the social life of ethnic minority communities.

The exchanges also highlighted the need strengthen the propaganda work among local authorities and residents in ethnic minority communities on belief and religions as well as the State laws on belief and religion, promptly prevent extreme and instigating activities relating new religious phenomena, etc.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Vũ Chiến Thắng affirmed that the Party and the State always create favorable conditions for religious practices in accordance with the law and highly appreciated practical contributions made by religions to the development of the country.

He also agreed to strengthen the coordination relating to ethnicity and religion with the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs.
