Incense offering commemorates death anniversary of Emperor Lê Đại Hành

Provincial authorities in Thanh Hoa province’s Tho Xuan district held on April 19 a solemn ceremony for commemorating the 1016th death anniversary of Emperor Lê Đại Hành.  

Present at the ceremony taking place at Le Hoan special national relic site located in Xuan Lap commune’s Trung Lap village of the province included Chairman of the Commission for Communication and Education in Thanh Hoa Đào Xuân Yên, representatives of other provincial authorities and large numbers of locals and visitors.

The commemoration ceremony is held annually on the 8th of the third lunar month for paying respects and gratitude to great contributions of Emperor Lê Đại Hành.

During the ceremony, local officials and visitors offered incenses for paying tributes to great contributions of Emperor Lê Đại Hành.

National hero Lê Hoàn (10 August 941 – 18 March 1005) was born in Trung Lap village in the area which is now Xuan Lap commune. He first served under the reign of Đinh Bộ Lĩnh, and has commanded two thousand soldiers beating down a dozen of enemy warlords.

Lê Hoàn was appointed as the Emperor of Dai Viet kingdom in 979, renamed Emperor Lê Đại Hành with the reign name as Thiên Phúc.

He commanded the Viet army fended off the Song invasion in 981, and led successful battles against Cham army and rebellion forces in 990s.

During his reign, Emperor Lê Đại Hành has also made many great contributions for improving government consolidation, economy and culture, and especially in agriculture development.

He is the first king who held the Royal Ploughing Ceremony in 987 and laid down the first centralized feudal state of Vietnam in the late 10th century.

Le Hoan temple was recognized as the special national relic site in 2019.
