GCRA holds seminar on belief establishments and practices in Vietnam

Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Vũ Hoài Bắc chaired on January 05 a seminar on categories and activities of belief establishments in Vietnam.

Joining the event included Vice Chairman of the GCRA Nguyễn Ánh Chức, a large number of researchers from Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Hanoi National University, Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts Studies, Institute of Monuments Conservation, and representatives from relating state governance sectors.

According to Chairman Vũ Hoài Bắc, the country currently has over 50,000 establishments of a diverse belief life containing rich tangible and intangible values, in which many belief establishments have been recognized as relics. The conservation and restoration of old belief establishments and building new ones have been bustling in the last 30 years along with vibrant practices at those belief establishments posing new challenges for the state governance.

The seminar drawing nine presentations and 14 papers sent to the GCRA focused on key issues on definition, characteristics, and classification of belief establishments; tangible and intangible values of belief establishments, and the functions and roles of belief establishments in social life; current operation of belief establishments; the state policies and laws relating to belief establishments; and issues and suggestions relating to state governance of belief establishments.
