Exemplary Catholics in Ho Chi Minh City honored for social charities

The Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City, in coordination with the city’s Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics, held a meeting on August 28 to honor Catholics in the city for their outstanding contributions to social welfare, education and health care.  

The meeting saw the participation of Vice Chairman of Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Tấn Hùng, Deputy Head of the Representative Office of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Vietnam South Lương Hoài Nhân, Chairman of the municipal Commission for Mass Mobilization Nguyễn Hữu Hiệp, Priest Chairman of the Committee for Solidarity of Catholics in the city Joseph Phan Khắc Từ, representatives of the Catholic solidarity board and VFF board in the city’s districts, representatives of Catholic orders and parishes in the city, and 85 exemplary Catholic individuals and groups.

As reported by Priest Joseph Phan Khắc Từ, who is also Vice President of the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics, the Catholic community in Ho Chi Minh City is running 170 educational establishments, 20 medical facilities, Duc Minh vocational training center, as well as many charity establishments for disadvantaged people in the city.

During the event, Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee presented certificates of recommendation to 42 Catholic groups and 43 Catholic individuals for their social and charitable contributions in the city.
