Effective model for ensuring public safety and order in Catholic commune in Ninh Binh province

Nga Dien commune located in the North of Ninh Binh province’s Nga Son district currently has over 1,460 Catholic households with about 8,000 followers (accounting for 76.5% the commune’s population).
For years, authorities of Nga Dien commune has effectively collaborated with Catholic dignitaries in engaging religious followers for ensuring security and order in the locality. In 2014, the security and order board in Nga Dien commune established the “peaceful parish – cultural family” model with eight criteria.
The model has been implemented parallel to movements launched by local authorities for building cultural lifestyles in residential areas and promoting public safety and social order.
For three years (2014-2017), locals in Nga Dien commune have provided useful information for the local police to handle security issues and violation cases. In particular, local people informed the police 60 pieces of information, contributing to successfully investigate 56 cases of security violation.
In addition, over 40 disputes in the commune have been successful mediated including serious cases, and all eight residential areas and all nine Catholic congregations in the commune have been free from crimes, drugs and social evils.
