The Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism sent on September 23 a dispatch to Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee regarding the renovation of Cau (Bridge) pagoda relic site located in the province’s Hoi An City.
Accordingly, the ministry agreed with the provincial People’s Committee on contents of a project developed for renovation of the Cau pagoda relic site including the reinforcement of foundation and pier, the restoration of the system of floor beams, wooden frames, roof and covering structure of the pagoda, the renovation of electrical and lighting systems, anti-termite treatment for the construction, the installation of shelters, preservation and processing of components, and the digitization the relic site by 3D technology to serve the restoration of the relic site.
The ministry also asked the local authority to pay attention to the preservation of architectural and aesthetic values of the post-renovation work, and evaluate the influence of flood flows on the stability of the bridge piers and propose solutions to protect the wooden structure of the bridge submerged in water, etc.
For the basic design of the project, the ministry stressed that it is necessary to be in harmony with the surrounding landscape space, as well as create conditions for people and visitors to observe and monitor relic restoration activities, contributing to propaganda and promotion of the project.
The ministry also noted that Cau pagoda is an important construction of the World Cultural Heritage of Hoi An Ancient town, so the project's contents should be fully communicated to the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO and the UNESCO Office in Vietnam located in Hanoi.
