The authorities of Phuoc Long provincial City in Binh Phuoc province held on April 4 a ceremony for formally announce Ba Ra Shrine Festival as a national intangible cultural heritage.
Present at the event held in coordination with the provincial department of culture, sport and tourism included Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee cum Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Council Huỳnh Thị Hằng, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Trần Tuyết Minh, representatives of the ministry of culture, sport and tourism in Ho Chi Minh City, heads of provincial departments and agencies, and a large number of locals.
Ba Ra or Linh Son Shrine, also known as Goddess or Ba Son Giang Shrine located in Phuoc Long city is dedicated the regional Goddess or Ra Goddess. Ba Ra Festival annually takes place on the first three days of the third lunar month; it is a folk belief festival as well as a community event associated with a cultural relic in the locality. In addition, locals often come to Ba Ra Shrine on the new-moon and full-moon days and the traditional New Year to worship the goddess and pray for peace and prosperity.

The recognition of Ba Ra Shrine Festival as a national intangible heritage shows the State’s respect for the traditional festival and practically contributes to the preservation of this cultural heritage.
