My Tho municipal authorities in Tien Giang province held on May 24 a meeting with key Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the city on occasion of the 2562nd Buddha’s Birthday, known as Vesak Day.
Attending the event included representatives of local authorities and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in the province, and over 60 Buddhist monks, nuns and Buddhists in the city.
During the meeting, Vice Chairwoman of the My Tho city people’s committee Lê Thị Bé Phượng extended best wishes and happy celebrations of the 2562nd Vesak Day to all Buddhist dignitaries and followers of Buddhism in the locality. She also hailed contributions of the Buddhist chapter to the social and urban development of the city.
While extending thanks to the local governance for its due attention and support extended to the VBS’s chapter in the city, Senior Venerable Thích Quảng Lộc pledged to continue encouraging local Buddhists to uphold fine traditions and make further contributions to the urban civilization movement launched by municipal authorities.

On the occasion, local authorities extended congratulations to six monks and nuns who were ordained at the eighth National Congress of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) held in Hanoi in November 2017.
