The 2nd India Buddhism culture day in Vietnam will be organised at Thien An Pagoda in Tam Dao district, the northern province of Vinh Phuc, on March 16 and 19.
The information was released by Most Venerable Thích Đức Thiện, General Secretary of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council at a press conference on the event held in Hanoi on March 13.
The people-to-people diplomatic event will be organised by the Vietnam – India Friendship Association, the VBS and the India Embassy in Vietnam.
It aims to celebrate 45 years of diplomatic ties (January 7, 1972 - 2017) and 10 years of comprehensive strategic partnership (2007-2017) between the two countries.
According to Venerable Thích Đức Thiện, the culture day will feature ceremonies performed by Gyalwang Drukpa, head of the Drukpa Lineage, and nearly 100 Buddhist monks and nuns from India.
On the occasion, Gyalwang Drukpa will present the VBS a needle painting of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, embroidered by 40 artisans. The painting is 11.7 metres wide and 16 metres long.
The first India Buddhist culture day took place at Phat Tich Pagoda in Tien Du district in the northern province of Bac Ninh in 2014.
