Vietnamese Muslims attend 8th Southeast Asian Youth Al-Quran Reading Competition 2017

At an official invitation from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Brunei Darussalam, two Muslims from An Giang province attended the 8th Southeast Asian Youth Al-Quran Reading Competition 2017 held on October 22-27 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei.

Joining the two Muslims as a distinguished guest at the event was Deputy Director of the  Department of Other Various Religions’ Affairs under the Vietnam Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Trần Minh Thu.

This year competition hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, attracted Muslim youths between the ages of 18 to 30 from 11 Southeast Asian countries, with Timor Leste participating the event for the first time.

The biennial Al-Quran reading contest was started in 2000. It creates opportunities for Southeast Asian Muslim youths sharing their countries’ cultural values to friends in the region, improving Al-Quran reading as well as upholding their role in strengthening peace and harmony in the Southeast Asian region.
